What we have are cutting-edge technologies for whatever stage of cancer that they have, cutting-edge technologies would take care of that. Be it cutting-edge surgery technology or medical treatment. We're learning more and more about what the light switches are on a tumor that are turning the tumor on and off and we are trying to gear that and personalize that to their tumor.
That is our current goal is to try to really personalize therapy to a patient's tumor. Melanomas are already trying to stimulate the body's immune system. In fact, in melanoma tumors, we can often find immune cells called T-cells that are already trying to kill the tumor, obviously not doing a good enough job because the tumor is growing. We learn to take those T-cells out and grow them outside of the body to large numbers and then give them back, and that's called T-cell therapy and that's - we're one of the only places in the country that offers that at the current time.
And in the burns unit of ground-breaking Australian surgeon Fiona Wood, we'll meet some of the patients benefiting from her work and find out the latest science around regenerating and protecting skin in trauma. Tuesday, 6 March Against The Clock Body Hits: Body Beautiful Body Hits: Detox Devils Body Hits: Face Value Body Hits: Nasty Niffs Body Hits: There are many different types of skin cancer and a wide variety of treatments depending on the diagnosis.
Sometimes we treat with creams, sometimes we treat with cutting, sometimes we treat with radiation, but it depends on what kind of skin cancer we're dealing with, it depends who has the skin cancer, what their personal needs are.
Regardless of the type of cancer, early detection is still the most important factor to treating skin cancer. The majority of skin cancers that Americans have are what we call non melanoma skin cancers and these can be often easily cured if they are brought to the attention of the treating physician early enough. Melanoma skin cancers can be somewhat more serious but if these are detected early these can also have a very high rate of cure. Anything that you can do to protect yourself from or prevent a disease from occurring makes sense to me.
